Google did it again: Google Wave Rocks!

This is truly amazingly hot stuff! … and – again – incredibly well engineered!! Honestly, I can’t wait to get my hands on Google Wave!

Google Wave Screenshot

Actually I should say: Weaving and Surfing Waves! :-)

Google Wave is a new tool for communication and collaboration on the web, coming later this year. Watch the demo video below, sign up for updates and learn more about how to develop with Google Wave.

Update: Meanwhile I managed to “play” at least a little bit with the Wave Sandbox – using the 2nd test account of a generous colleague (thx M.!) – while still waiting for my Wave Developer Account request to be processed.
Pretty impressed by the Wave UI but also wondering what the transformation management strategy of Google will look like when Wave hits the average users, as Wave clearly requires quite some rethinking…

Twitter addicted? …but not allowed to tweet + follow at work?

Wished you could hide Twitter while crunching number, tweaking statistics and (over) simplifying presentations using Excel, PowerPoint & Co.?

… then Spreadtweet, is right for YOU!

Spreadtweet, developed by Elliott Kember, is a Twitter tool that mimics the Excel user interface.

You can choose between three different Adobe AIR based RIA clients:

… and there is even a web-based version for your instant test drive.

Disclaimer: no, I’m not addicted – but Spreadtweet made me smile :-)!

Impressed by development workflow possible with Google App Engine now supporting Java

Yesterday I recieved my account upgrade to Google App Engine for Java:

Welcome to an early look at Google App Engine for Java!

So far I did only have a quick look at the new version, mainly playing around with the starter project.

But what is already clear: the Google engineering team did an awesome job to provide developers with a tool, read Google Plugin for Eclipse supported development workflow to get started as well as to boost the overall application development cycle in total (code, test, debug, deploy). And even more in regard to GWT application development…

Pretty cool!

Web Trend Map – must see!

Awesome piece of work, both research and design/ layout!

The Web Trend Map is a yearly publication by iA Inc. that maps the 333 most influential Web domains and the 111 most influential Internet people onto the Tokyo Metro map.

The following diagram is the final beta version of the map.

Click to display bigger version of the map (even 6740 x 4768)!

In additional you’re invited to provide feedback in the comment’s section of the page, but remember:

No hate (we know we suck), no love (we know you still love us), no novels (we know that you know a lot).

Spread the word: browser-update.org (de_DE)

Go and scr.im your email address

Scr.im is a simple but nicely built free service (currently in beta) to convert your email address into a short, cute and safe link that you can share on the web.

Why would you want to do this? Well, of course to get less spam! ;-)

How does it work? Instead of tricking around to obfuscate your email address with some nasty JavaScript hack people willing to email you will go to this URL (e.g. http://scr.im/matthias) that will reveal your email address, after a simple test that automated scripts and bots cannot pass.

Safari Microformats plugin

The Safari Microformats plugin (Mac OS X Leopard 10.5+ only) notifies you when the author of the website has published Microformats and allows you to easily import hCards and hCalendars in Address Book and iCal.

How it works

When a hCard or hCalendar is present in the website you visit, the Microformats logo will be shown in the address bar.

screenshot_safarimicroformatsplugin_semanticdreamer_com.png

Click on the logo, and a sheet opens, showing you all the Microformats. You can add them individually, or all at once.

At the bottom of the sheet, you can choose in which iCal calendar and Address Book group you wish to import the Microformats data. If you have installed Growl , a notification will be shown when you import data. Click the notification and iCal or Address Book will launch.
