The duck in me…

(Image Source: Wikipedia, some rights reserved)

Yesterday I recieved a notification that my “Personal Annual Report for 2008″ for my Dopplr account is available and awaiting my download – but until now I didn’t found time to actually have a look at it…

… only in order to learn:

  • You [me] took 8 trips in 2008, which added
up to 43,602 km or 12% of the distance to the moon.
  • In 2008, you [me] spent 339 Day at Home [and] 27 travelling.

… resulting in:

Your personal velocity for 2008 was 4.97
km/h, which is about the same as a duck.

What’s your velocity?

Why geeks prefer using the keyboard instead of the mouse

Big smile :-))

Remember, every time you touch the mouse, God kills a kitten. Use the keyboard if you have a heart.

Project Sun SPOT – small programmable object technology by Sun

Project Sun SPOT – an initiative of Sun Microsystems Laboratories to make sure that the next generation of gadgets is based on Sun technology.
The Vision: Programming the Real-world
Inspiring Java developers to create a whole new breed of devices and technologies – and accelerating the growth of the “Internet of Things” (Project Sun SPOT)
What is a Sun SPOT device?
sunspot
The Sun SPOT Device is a small, wireless, battery powered experimental platform. It is programmed almost entirely in Java to allow regular programmers to create projects that used to require specialized embedded system development skills. The hardware platform includes a range of built-in sensors as well as the ability to easily interface to external devices.” (Project Sun SPOT)
What I like about it?
Well, …

  • first of all the vision itself: “accelerating the growth of the “Internet of Things”.
  • the focus on Java: allowing “developers to write a program in Java, load it on a device, run it, and debug it with standard Java IDEs”. Which is exactly why I personaly think the Google’s Android will be a huge stakeholder in the mobile industry to come.
  • the open philosophie allowing to leverage the technology in which ever context you like, reaching from education to hoobyists.

Today I read the following status message on the Yahoo! Messenger(!!!) of a business partner … and laughed out loud :-):

“If MS buys Yahoo I’ll say bye to you, Yahoo!”

Of course I immediately assured myself the permission to publish this statement – and to probably use as my IM status as well ;-)…

iPhone likes bara-vara.de’s CSS layout…

… at least it displays the bara-vara.de CSS design quite smootly.
I used the

application (a free, open source iPhone web simulator for designers, of course Mac OS X only) to take the following screenshots.
Unfort. this is the only way for me currently to proof the subject – as we have to another half year here in germany to get our hands at this toy.

…ups, but it really does no Flash!!! (expected to see a photo from my gallery in the almost white main content area)
